Why is it called a “market garden” instead of a farm?

When people think of farming, they think of: large machinery, rows of single crops, and acres upon 

acres. As opposed to this concept, market gardening is a small-scale farming technique that uses hand tools - instead of large machines, rows of diverse crops, including ones that are beneficial to the environment. Instead of large machinery, which can damage the soil, only hand tools are used. In a market garden, you will find pathways that are conducive to people rather than tractors. 

Why? This is the best way to work in unison with nature and to ensure the life of the soil in preserved. This makes for living soil, living plants with plenty of nutrients, and better tasting produce.
